François Thurot
Corsair 1727-1760

F.Thurot, son of a Post House master was born in Nuits saint Georges on 12 July 1727. He went to sea at Boulogne when 17 years old. First as apprentice, then as pilot and finally captain, he inflicted heavy damages on the english maritime trade, and died in combat on board the Maréchal de Belle Isle that he commanded.

Jacques Duret
Botanist

Born in Nuits, in Grenier à Sel street on 27 March 1794. Duret had a passion for botany and naturel sciences from the age of 15. In 1812, he studied medicine and became doctor of the Hospice. For 30 years, he was Mayor of his native town and was responsible for modernising the towns equipment.

Paul Cabet

Sculptor born in Nuits on first February 1815, P.Cabet was the student of F. Rude ; his father in law ; and he also reached celebrity like his master. He is the author of the statue that stands on the hill above the town in memory of the heroic battle in Dijon during the 1870 Franco-Prussian war.

Félix Tisserand

Born in Nuits in 1845, Félix Tisserand is the son of cooper. After brilliant studies, he became the Director of the Paris'Observatory. He wrote a treaty of astronomical mecanics still a work reference today for space exploration.

Michel Sarrazin (1659 – 1734)

Michel Sarrazin was the first French scientist in Canada , surgeon, botanist.

Henri Challand invents the fruit juice and its trade.

Camille Rodier (1890 – 1963)

Camille Rodier, with Georges Faiveley, is the founder of “Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin"
