A short history...
The most famous cru in the world, the Romanée-Conti, is located in Vosne-Romanée, near other famous crus : Romanée Saint-Vivant, Richebourg, La Tâche, Grande-Rue, la Romanée...
Romanée could come from a roman place along the commercial roman road from Dijon to Beaune, through Nuits. This road was parallel with the great roman road at the border of the forest of Cîteaux, as this one was devoted to military troops.
Vosne comes from its fountain.
At first, Vosne-Romanée was a little hamlet, which depended of Lords of Vergy whose history was linked with this of the abbeys (Saint Vivant, Cîteaux, La Bussières...), owners of vineyards.
