A short story...

The oldest name of Premeaux appears in a written document of the Abbey of Mazières in the 12th century : Prumel. At early 11th century, the village belonged to St Bénigne Abbey in Dijon (1020), then it belonged to Abbey of St Seine (1220).

Premeaux means "first waters". Since Gallo-Roman period, it has been known for the therapeutic virtues of the Courtavaux river’s spring. Its hot (18°C), sulfurous and radioactive water cured illness of skin, intestine, liver and eyes.

The spring was exploited until 1970, and then Premeaux developed forest, stone, cereal and of course wine activities.

In the past, Prissey was the property of a lord, then it became an independent village, and in 1972 it was joined to Premeaux.

Prissey has got a large patrimony in local stone : the church (13th and 14th century) with its unfinished tower, the lordly chapel, the funeral pavement (15th and 18th century), a Pieta (16th century).

Thanks to excavations in the 50s, we discovered that Prissey was an important city with a port during gallo-roman period.
