A short history...

This village must date back to gallo-roman period and its name "Boncourt" comes from a Merovingian property of Bono or Bovo.

Dukes of Burgundy appreciated this rich rural and wine property and in the 15th century they built the Castle of La Berchère. Nowadays we can still admire its medieval aspect despite the removing in the 18th century.

During 1870’war, Boncourt was occupied by enemy troops and the castle of La Berchère was their headquarter. The battlefield, which is now the aerodrome, stretched from the castle to Nuits Saint Georges.
