A short history...
Argilly dates back to gallo-roman period : there was the biggest house of the area (240 m x 130 m) near the roman road Beaune-dijon. It was a commercial place.
From the 12th century, the hunting house of Dukes of Burgundy became a castle with 14 towers, and it was the administrative centre of the whole area. It was demolished in 1590.
Tile-making firms of Argilly produced enamelled paving stones for Cîteaux, Gilly, Commarin and Châteauneuf.
